Description:
SJI prepares sign language interpreters for certification in the interpreter training program. All courses are accredited and are accepted at more than 1,500 U.S. colleges and universities. SJI offers you: an opportunity to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Sign Language Interpretation through SJI with Empire State College (SUNY); recommended National P.O.N.S.I. course credit upon institutional approval; V.E.S.I.D. acceptance; scheduled payment plan upon request; convenient evening and summer classes; counseling and evaluation services; and classes taught in Staten Island and Manhattan. SJI also offers a sign language program for both the deaf and hearing populations. Students, professionals, and other interested parties have the opportunity to gain conversational skills in ASL. The program also prepares the student for entry into the Interpreter Training Program at SJI or elsewhere. Discussions of deaf culture are a part of each course, and there are frequent opportunities to meet members of the deaf community. Convenient locations and class schedules are offered for all ASL classes.
