The New York State Office of Children and Family Services' Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped (CBVH) provides rehabilitation counseling, job training, and placement services to individuals who are legally blind and reside in New York State. CBVH programs include: (1) Training for Employment; (2) Business Enterprise Program; (3) Programs for Older Adults; & (4) Programs for Children. Services are coordinated by counselors and children's consultants located in eight regional offices. In addition, programs for multiply disabled children under the age of 21 are available, and may include services provided in the home, the community and/or rehabilitation agencies. Any New York State resident who is legally blind may be eligible for some of the services provided by CBVH. If you are unsure if you are legally blind, CBVH can assist you in determining eligibility. If you are interested in any of the programs or services offered by CBVH and would like to receive an application, or if you require assistance in completing an application, please call the regional office located closest to you. CBVH also has private agencies for the blind. Contact CBVH directly to determine appropriate services for the deaf-blind. The VR counselor may provide counseling and guidance to the client and family, advocacy services, case management, educational consultation and vocational coordination. The vocational counselor will provide transition related services.
